The base with two short and two long drawers, brass swan neckhandles onshaped back plates. Bracket feet and a shaped lower frieze. Bears the stamp of John Snowdon under the top section. Oil of a Northern Street Scene
£350.00Oil on board of a northern street scence. Possibly Leeds. Barbara Dawson. Exhibited at the Yorkshire Artists Exhbition in 1957. This exhibition, held at Leeds City Art Gallery, was notable for featuring work by a young David Hockney, including a painting of his father. At the time, Hockney was a student at Bradford College of Art. The painting of his father was sold at the exhibition for £10, which Hockney said helped him financially. Oil of Kettlewell, Yorkshire

He was a protégé of Herbert Royle (1870-1958) and painted prolifically, mainly in oils. His artwork became popular to a point where he was able to work freelance as a professional oil painter. As a number of his paintings included golfers and golf courses, he was included in the Dictionary of Sporting Artists 1650-1990, published by the Antique Collectors Club in 1992.
